My name is Taylor Hay and I'm the founder and host of Star for a Night, a red carpet charity event to benefit Cancer for College. At Cancer for College, they strive to utilize our funds in the best way possible to impact as many cancer survivors as possible. Since inception, Cancer for College has granted over $2.5 million in scholarships totaling over 1,100 scholarships. . This year's celebrity fundraiser will be held on November 3rd, 2018 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM in Los Angeles and 100% of the net proceeds will be donated to the charity.
In case you're wondering why this is important to me, I’m a nineteen-year-old cancer survivor and actor. When I was nine, I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. I was in treatment for over two years and was hospitalized eleven times. It was hard, but I fought through it. I am now eight and a half years cancer free.
I chose Cancer for College as my charity this year because of their dedication to giving cancer surviors a second chance at life and furthering their careers. Now that I’m healthy, I want to do all I can to ensure that no other child has to go through what I did.
I will be inviting many children/teens who are currently being served by the organization to the event so they can meet actors and singers they recognize and admire from their favorite shows. They will be getting their picture taken on the red carpet with their favorite celebrities so they can truly feel like a “star for the night.” Every child who has ever attended has said it was an experience they would always remember and I hope to make this year bigger and better. This is the first year we are opening it up to the public and we are using the ticket sales and donations to raise funds for the organization so they can continue their valuable work.
